In this video we are bonding some marine ply reinforcements to the raised seat pl.
Ahesive bonding fiberglass sheets to plywood.
The other option is more epoxy to bond the sheet to the plywood similar to a boat deck repair.
I already purchased the glue a red contact cement called helmiprene 4570 made by helmitin.
The plan is to first glue the thin fiberglass panel to the 1 8 plywood and then attach the sandwiched panel to the aluminum frame.
I will spray the glue to the surfaces.
Pull the caulk gun trigger and squeeze a long bead of glue in a zigzag pattern on the back of the insulation leaving about 1 inch free of adhesive on the edges.
Lay the foam panel face down.
Always mix the epoxy resin and hardener in the correct proportions.
But in the case of a boat the fiberglass is structural and the wood is just there to thicken it with a lighter material than the fiberglass.
Epoxy has the advantage of spreading across the two surfaces and filling in gaps that are visible between the fiberglass and wood.
Once the glue dries i will join the surfaces together.
This classic adhesive has proven to bond combinations of most foamed plastics plastic laminate wood plywood wood veneer and canvas.
Bonding it with epoxy may be overkill.
